International Surfing Day!

It's Intern Elizabeth here. Tomorrow, in celebration of International Surfing Day, I will be hanging out in front of Little Hawaii at Hacienda Pinilla with our most excellent surf instructor Pedro.

The Tamarindo Surfrider Foundation put this little gathering together in order to help raise money for the Tamarindo Surfrider Foundation Beach Clean Up Program and Tamarindo Lifeguards. There will be food, live music, a Junior Jam surf contest, a single fin contest and so much more. You can get in for $20 or if you are Costa Rican for $10.

Come join us, suport a good cause and come with any surf related question for Pedro.

Just for kicks, here's some photos from this morning when Pedro and I spent time together along with some other campers at Avellanes...

So, yeah. Come down, chat with me and Pedro, catch a few waves and support a great cause. Even if you can't make it to Costa Rica in time, make sure you get out and celebrate International Surfing Day in the water.

WRSC Panama Surf Tour June 2009 Update

Hi everyone,
sorry for not updating you all sooner on this current surf tour. I know I promised pics, here are a few from the first couple of days. We have a TON of photos and video that are still on memory cards, but since we're in Pavones with hardly any internet and on our way to a remote Panamanian island that has no electricity whatsoever, all of our surf clips will be posted some time next week.

The trip is going INSANELY great. I'm cruising with Rafa and two guests, Jenn and Keith Capurro, they are very cool and great to travel with.

Checking out a remote surf break south of Dominical

Onshore and a little stormy in Esterillos, but still some fun waves for doing floaters and snaps on the 5'9 Hynson BK Quad

The Rio Claro a.k.a. Pavones, the longest left in Central America as far as I know

Keith setting a line

Me cruising the new Stewart 9'0 Colin McPhillips comp model (get them at the surf shop this next season, the board is dope!)

There are parrots everywhere.

Our next destination is a remote part of the Pacific coast of Panama, we're leaving for the border in an hour or so after we grind some breakfast at Cafe de la Suerte. Costa Rica is such an amazing country, with so many different things to see, new places to experience. I definitely suggest checking out one of our future guided surf tours if you're interested in getting an insider's look to surf travel in Latin America.

The best Mai Tai in the world

Hello world! I'm Valerie, Joe's assistant. After reading this post's title, you might be thinking "Mmmm, I like Mai Tais" Or... "I bet this post is about the bar at Witch's Rock Surf Camp". But no... today I am writing about my new 8'6" Stewart pintail "Mai Tai" longboard from Boardworks. I swear it's the sweeeeetest board in the world!

It was like Christmas around here last week when Larry got back from San Diego with three new longboards in tow. Joe and I were like kids on Christmas morning unwrapping our brand new presents. The restaurant and bar patrons seemed to enjoy watching us unpack and admire our new toys as well. So fun! But not as fun as being out on the water this afternoon - surfing great waves with great people on a great board... I'm super stoked!

Joe got two amazing new Stewart longboards, both 9'0", beautifully shaped and manufactured and ready to be enjoyed as part of our growing quiver of great boards. We're working hard to diversify our board offerings for our tour guests and we're excited to be adding some of the Boardworks line. We're sure you're going to love them as much as we do! Sorry, my Mai Tai doesn't join the WRSC quiver though - she's right at home with me :)

Hey - about this for an idea? You tell us what kind of board you want to ride on your next trip to Witch's Rock Surf Camp, and if we don't have it we'll buy it, have it shipped to you, then you can bring it down and be the FIRST to ride it!

New Witch's Rock Surf Camp Commercial

One of the best parts of owning our own company is not having any rules, and not having to report to anyone. We get to go down new paths and explore things constantly with art, music, and video/film. We are always trying to find a way to combine those things with what we do at the surf camp, it keeps things fun.

Here's a new commercial for the surf camp that our friend Tony Dusko made. Check out his Notebook Babies website. I particularly like Honey Lumps.

I think this commercial is super groovy and makes me smile every time I watch it :-) I would like to run it on TV here and there, just to see what happens. If you want to pass it on, the commercial's url is:

thanks, pura vida!

WRSC website vote - ROUND TWO

Hi everyone,
thank you for your input, literally we received hundreds of votes for the last website election poll we put on the blog...and #2 and #3 were the top two choices.

We are re-posting these two to find the true leader, along with a new addition which has gained considerable attention to a point where I want to include it in round 2. The reason? because Jane Bocker is a great designer and gets our style. No its not perfect, I have some doodles I'd add to it, plus I'd like to incorporate some of the elementes

.... Please internetlandia, help us figure out how which website to launch.
